DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary as we explore the local stories of the Old Colony that helped shape the nation.\nThis talk will explore how various Indigenous nations participated in the War of American Independence\, and what the creation of the United States meant for them. Perspectives will range from Native people living within Massachusetts to those living thousands of miles away. \nIan Saxine is a historian of early modern North America with a particular focus on Indigenous people and the Maritime Northeast. Saxine co-hosts the podcast Mainely History (with Tiffany Link\, Maine Historical Society)\, featuring conversations about Maine and New England history. He is co-editor of a new book\, The Great Upheaval: War\, Migration\, and Transformation in Early Modern America\, 1675-1725 (University of Nebraska Press\, 2026). \nThe OCHM is proud to offer free public programs\, continuing our long tradition of providing accessible history and learning for all. \n
