Job Title: Education & Programs Manager
Reports To: Museum Director
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $42,000-$48,000 annually, commensurate with experience

About the Museum
The Old Colony History Museum (OCHM) celebrates the history of Taunton and surrounding communities through engaging exhibits, educational programs, and special events. Our mission is to make history accessible and meaningful for a diverse audience, including school groups, families, and adult learners.
Position Summary
The Education & Programs Manager oversees the day-to-day operation of the museum’s educational and public programs. This operational role focuses on scheduling, program execution, and coordinating with staff, volunteers, and community partners. The position also includes outreach responsibilities, such as building relationships with schools, teachers, and local organizations to increase participation in museum programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the museum’s educational and public programs, including school field trips, tours, workshops, and community events.
- Maintain program calendars, coordinate scheduling, and ensure timely communication with staff, volunteers, and external partners.
- Lead the implementation of programs, including staffing, set-up, registration management, and on-site facilitation.
- Conduct outreach to local schools, teachers, and community organizations to promote museum programs.
- Assist in creating program materials, guides, and signage under the direction of the Museum Director.
- Supervise and coordinate volunteers and part-time program staff as needed.
- Collect and track program participation data and prepare brief reports for internal use.
- Assist with marketing efforts for programs, including social media posts, email announcements, and print materials.
- Represent the museum at community events and school visits, promoting programs and building connections.
- Ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging experience for all visitors.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Education, History, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in museum, education, or program management settings.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills; ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with staff, volunteers, school groups, and the public.
- Experience with community outreach or relationship-building with schools/organizations is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and familiarity with scheduling/registration software, Bloomerang preferred.
- Passion for history, education, and engaging diverse audiences.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods during tours and programs.
- Ability to lift program materials up to 25 lbs.
- Occasional evening or weekend work required for programs or events.
Volunteering
At the OCHM, we are always looking to recruit people who enjoy volunteering and are eager to learn new things. Our mission-driven volunteers will support the work of the museum through service in our curatorial, education, or programming departments, or in other behind-the-scenes roles.
