OCHM Hosts Special Traveling Exhibit on the Marquis de Lafayette

TAUNTON, MA—For the month of October, the Old Colony History Museum (OCHM) will present The Life and Legacy of the Marquis de Lafayette, a traveling exhibit developed by the American Friends of Lafayette. This six-banner display highlights the remarkable life of the French hero who fought alongside the Continental Army during the American Revolution and helped secure the crucial Franco-American Alliance. Through striking historic images, carefully researched label text, and engaging graphic design, the exhibit explores Lafayette’s enduring dedication to human rights and liberty.

Visitors will also discover a panel focused on Lafayette’s triumphant return to the United States as the “Guest of the Nation” in 1824–1825, as well as current efforts by the American Friends of Lafayette to commemorate the bicentennial of that visit in 2024–2025. This exhibit strives to make Lafayette’s story more accessible and relevant to today’s citizens, inviting new generations to connect with his legacy.

The Lafayette exhibit is part of OCHM’s month-long celebration of Taunton’s own Revolutionary heritage. In addition to the exhibit, the museum will host a series of special events throughout October, including:

  • Loyalist Daniel Leonard Presentation — October 9
  • Tavern Night: Before the Flag, There Was Beer — October 17 (Fundraiser for the OCHM)
  • Liberty & Union Festival — October 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the OCHM
