Years covered are from 1819 to 1865. The collection consists of personal receipts, correspondence letters, and shipping receipts acquired by George Gibb during his research for The Whitesmiths of Taunton.

Born on September 16th,1916 in Attleboro, Massachusetts, George S. Gibb (George Sweet Gibb) was the son of John Laing Gibb (1873-1971) and Helen Faustina Sweet (1884-1966). He attended Harvard University where he studied business history and was a research assistant at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. While at Harvard, he was commissioned to research and write comprehensive histories of major American companies, contributing to the "Harvard Studies in Business History" series. His work focused mainly on industrial and business history, often examining the development of specific New England industries. Gibb married Elizabeth Robinson Nolan (1921-1976) in 1941 and had one daughter Sarah Ruth Gibb (1951-2003). During his life, Gibb wrote prominent works like The Whitesmiths of Taunton, which details the history of Reed & Barton from the years 1824-1943. In 1936, Gibb moved to Boston, Massachusetts and later moved to Mansfield, Massachusetts in 1950. He wrote many other works on business history until his death in Falmouth, Massachusetts in 1989.

Collection consists of one box containing two folders. Folder one contains 45 documents and folder two contains 157 documents.
