Early Colonial Objects
This collection of early colonial artifacts at the Old Colony History Museum includes tools, food service items, and building materials, such as hand-wrought plates, porringers, scissors, and shingles dating from the 17th and 18th century that provide a glimpse into daily life, craftsmanship, and construction practices in the Old Colony.

Ax
Hand forged broad axe blade with sharp rounded inner cutting lip.

Brick
Old brick, believed to be from the foundation of the first Town House of Taunton.

Brick from the house of John Hathaway, Berkley, MA; house was on the side of land owned by the Rev. Mr. William Hooke and Nicholas Street

Broadax
Rectangular blade with rounded corners; hand-wrought; cracked handle of unknown wood shaped in an S-curve; iron wedge at top of handle

Chest
Six board chest with simple molded lid and spit nail hinges. Applied molding on bottom edge and under lip at ends. Legs formed by half-rounds with single center dart on end boards. Decorated on front with punchwork in geometric design. Has two facing "K's" on the front. Till with molded lid on inner left.

Chest, Blanket
Taunton Chest is a blanket or dowry chest, made by Robert Crosman for his cousin, Abigail Woodward. The chest has simple board feet with one pull out drawer along bottom and three drawer facade with the top lifting up. Six brass drop handles and three escutcheons, only the top one with lock. Black painted finish with red and white design of trees, birds, vines, and stylized flowers.

Clock, Tall Case
Tall case clock, 8-day, with bracket feet, satinwood and walnut veneer inlay. Quarter round fluted columns on body with brass capitols, brass cut-out escutcheon. Full-round fluted columns on bonnet with bras capitols. Three ball and obelisk finials. Fretwood on bonnet. Face has calendar, moon phases, second hand.

Cradle
Red painted cradle with square posts at each corner which are pegged together. Each corner topped with rounded knob finial. Curved rockers at each end. Bottom board is laid in and is not very sturdy.
