The Second of a Two-Part Lecture Series in Partnership with the Old Colony History Museum & Woodlawn Museum

The Old Colony History Museum and Woodlawn Museum are pleased to present a two-part lecture series exploring the life and legacy of David Cobb (1748–1830), a Revolutionary War patriot, physician, soldier, statesman, and civic leader whose influence helped shape both Massachusetts and Maine. Through presentations drawing on the collections and expertise of each institution, participants will discover how Cobb’s remarkable career connected two regions during a pivotal period in American history. To study the life of David Cobb is to explore several lifetimes’ worth of accomplishments. In September, OCHM Curator of Collections Bronson Michaud explored Cobb’s life and career in Massachusetts. Now, in the second installment of this two-part series, join us as we welcome Woodlawn Museum Executive Director Meghan Doherty to explore Cobb’s more than twenty years in Maine, where he played an influential role in the region’s development during the years leading up to statehood.

As part of this collaborative lecture series, Meghan will share the Maine chapter of Cobb’s remarkable story, drawing on materials from Woodlawn Museum’s collection to examine his experiences as a civic leader and resident agent in the District of Maine. Together with the first lecture, this program offers a fuller understanding of Cobb’s lasting impact across two regions during one of the most transformative periods in American history.

Meghan Doherty has served as the Executive Director of Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth, Maine since October 2025, bringing a background in higher education and art history to her work in museum leadership. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is dedicated to strengthening community connections through accessible and engaging programming at Woodlawn.
